Our Take

The Doona combines an infant car seat and stroller in one unit: its wheels deploy for short walking transfers without moving the child to a separate stroller seat. It is convenient for car-to-curb trips, but the whole carrier must still be lifted into the vehicle with the child inside. It does not become a toddler stroller after the infant seat is outgrown.

Keep the revision clear. The older marketplace offer carries legacy 4–35 lb limits, while the current 2026 US guide specifies 4–30 lb and a 17.2 lb carrier/stroller. Do not mix the newer guide’s specifications into an unidentified older unit. The seat label and its matching instructions determine fit and service life; “six to nine months” is not a universal expiry or outgrowth rule.

What we like - No separate stroller frame or infant-seat adapter. - Short walking transfers without moving the child between seats.

Worth knowing - Heavy carrier and a fit window that ends with the infant seat. - Legacy and current US revisions have different specifications.

Best for Families making frequent short car-to-curb transfers during the infant-seat stage.

Consider another option if You need a lightweight carrier, cargo basket or stroller seating beyond the infant stage.

What we like

  • Car seat and stroller are one shell: the wheels deploy from the base and the handle rotates through carry, anti-rebound and push positions.
  • LATCH base, infant insert, head support and vehicle seat protector are listed in the box on the current product page.
  • Roomy limits for an infant seat — 30 lb (13.6 kg) and 32 in (81.3 cm) — with the included insert shaping the fit for smaller babies.
  • Installs with or without the base, including a lap-belt-only route, and the carrier is FAA-certified for aircraft (the base never goes on a plane).
  • UPF 50+ water-repellent canopy, removable washable textiles and a handlebar that doubles as the in-car anti-rebound bar.

Worth knowing

  • Walking-only stroller: the manual states the seat is not suitable for use while running or skating.
  • A substantial 17.2 lb (7.8 kg) carry, and an independent hands-on test of the same line flagged a short usable window of roughly six to nine months.
  • Doona's own documents disagree about the vehicle seat protector (product page: included; manual: sold separately) — confirm what arrives in your box.
  • No expiration or service-life figure is published, so record the manufacturing date from the traceability sticker at purchase.

Best for

Caregivers who fly, ride transit or use rideshares and want one FAA-certified seat that rolls onward as a stroller without waking a sleeping child, within the published 4 to 30 lb and 17 to 32 in window.

Consider another option if

You walk long distances or want to jog (this is walking-only), need carry storage beyond the child, or want a seat that carries a child well past the infant window — full-size travel systems and convertible seats serve those jobs better.

Professional review findings

  • BabyGearLab — Doona Combo review: Hands-on laboratory review of the same integrated car-seat-stroller concept: it praised the one-product travel idea, quick setup-free transitions and nimble handling through tight turns and public transit, and cautioned about a short usable window of roughly 6-9 months as an infant seat.

Compatibility & Extras

What ships with this configuration, what's sold separately, and what fits — verified per seat and accessory for this exact model.

In the box

  • LATCH Base (rear-facing only; installs with lower anchors or the vehicle belt, never both)
  • Infant Insert
  • Head Support
  • Vehicle Seat Protector (listed in the box on the current product page; see the recorded manual discrepancy)
  • Doona car seat with integrated stroller frame (the product itself)

Sold separately

  • SensAlert bundle upgrade
  • Additional Doona-approved accessories (rain cover, travel bag, footmuff, storage add-ons)

Check before buying

  • That the variation is Nitro Black on the Doona + (the US store also sells the separate Doona X line), and — because Doona's own documents disagree — that the vehicle seat protector is in the box when it arrives.
  • Researched configuration: Doona + Car Seat & Stroller with LATCH base, infant insert, head support and vehicle seat protector, in Nitro Black on the US store.
  • The Vehicle Seat Protector's inclusion is stated differently across Doona's own documents — the product page and the Amazon listing list it in the box, the seat manual calls it a sold-separately accessory; the page treatment is 'included', and the conflict is recorded in this package.
  • The LATCH base installs with lower anchors OR the vehicle seat belt, never both; there is no top tether, and standard 11 in (280 mm) lower-anchor spacing applies.
  • Never install the base on an aircraft — only the carrier is certified for aircraft use, on a two-point lap belt; contact the airline in advance.
  • Stroller mode is walking only — the manual prohibits use while running or skating.
  • Amazon's listing table states a 35-pound maximum car-seat capacity, a 9.7 lb base weight and a 7000 g item weight; the current official product page and US manuals state 30 lb (13.6 kg) maximum, a 10.4 lb (4.7 kg) base and 17.2 lb (7.8 kg) for the seat. The Amazon values mirror an older manual revision (old US literature used 4-35 lb); the official current values govern this page everywhere, including every safety-critical limit. — confirm the current figure with the manufacturer or retailer before buying.
  • The seat manual describes the Vehicle Seat Protector as a sold-separately accessory, while the current manufacturer product page and the Amazon listing both list it in the box. The page treats it as included (two current sources, matching the curated configuration) and advises confirming the delivered box; the manual line is recorded as an internal-document discrepancy, not as a specification. — confirm the current figure with the manufacturer or retailer before buying.

Helpful Questions

Can I fold the Doona+ into stroller mode with my baby buckled in?
Yes. The manual allows transitioning between car-seat and stroller modes while the child is harness-restrained, and it advises practicing the fold on the empty seat first.
Can the LATCH base go on an airplane?
No. Only the carrier is certified for aircraft use, and only on a two-point lap belt; the base must never be installed on a plane. Check with the airline before you fly.
Do I have to install the base to use the seat in a car?
No. The seat installs without the base using the vehicle belt; a lap-shoulder route wrapped around the back of the seat is preferred, with a lap-belt-only route for positions that lack a shoulder belt; and the built-in level line must sit parallel to the ground.
When can the infant insert come out?
The insert is required whenever the child weighs under 11 lb (5 kg) or the shoulders sit below the lowest harness slots without it; take it out once the shoulders rise above those slots. The head support is a separate piece fitted on its own.
